Six months with the "fiery one"

Aiden celebrates his half birthday this week. I know, I know. Half birthday? Don't we already celebrate too much as it is? Normally, I'd agree with you, but there just seems to be something special about this one. Maybe it's because from the beginning of my pregnancy, I felt that I was doomed to suffer a miscarriage. Maybe it's because when we found out he had a growth restriction and might need to come super early, and I was worried he'd be a micro-preemie, until he passed each week's test until the 36 th week. Running for Laken

I went on a run today. Nothing earth shattering, no PR’s were made. The distance wasn’t anything to write home about and it wasn’t part of a race. But it was six miles of time to myself, to be with my thoughts, and sometimes that’s a dangerous place. Today, I was mad. I was mad because a few days ago, a girl younger than I set out to do just what I was doing and she didn’t come home. She’s not the first, and sadly, she probably won’t be the last. This one really struck a nerve for some reason, but maybe that’s just because it’s becoming too common in headlines. Woman goes out for run, doesn’t return home. We are vigilant for a few weeks, then move on, let our guards down, and it happens again. Rinse, repeat. This really, really pisses me off. Why should our guards have to be up in the first place? The Messy House Won't Last Forever

My house. Is. A. Mess. It always seems to be that way, even 10 minutes after I’ve done a rage cleaning. My husband says it’s not a mess, it’s just “busy.” I should clarify. Sure, there are dog hair tumbleweeds daily (DJ Roomba mostly picks those up for me) and the baseboards could use a good cleaning, but most of the mess I’m referring to is four pair of shoes strewn about the floor, or a pile of Legos next to four Star Wars figures that I know I’ve told Austin to pick up at least four times in the last hour. Messes make me anxious. I’m not sure why, but I’m always stressed out when the house seems worse than normal. It’s not like we get a lot of company. I always giggle to myself a little when I clean for company anyway. My grandma was a stickler for a clean house (and it always was clean, so don’t let what I’m about to say make you think otherwise…).
