CHC Roots Sermon Series: Powerful Prayer

Pastor Bobby continued his sermon series on the topic of "Roots" this week. The focus this week was on POWERFUL PRAYER.

He pointed out that everyone prays. Every sect, religion, even people who don't even believe in a deity (especially in times of despair). Who they pray to may differ, but pray they do.

Prayer is a conversation between you and God.

If God was man, He would roll His eyes at me and tell me to get to the point. Or scold me because I get distracted and end a prayer before I'm ready.

But our God wants us to be confident in our prayers and in who we are praying to. And, yay! God tells us how to do that. Basically, we just need to pray CONSTANTLY, CONSISTENTLY AND WITH FAITH. POWERFUL PRAYER.

Luke 18.1-8 | Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God or respect people. 3 And a widow in that town kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4 “For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect people, 5 yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice, so that she doesn’t wear me out by her persistent coming.’” 6 Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 Will not God grant justice to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay helping them? 8 I tell you that he will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

Luke 18.8b | "...nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

Pastor Bobby asked, "Do you have the faith to pray always and not give up?"

Relentless. Unfailing.

Even if you've been waiting. Even if you think He's not listening because you're in limbo with your situation.

Pray like a toddler. You know, when they want something, they ask and ask and ask...even if they don't know how to say what they're trying to ask for. They point, they motion, they eventually get their point across. Pray with the persistence of my almost two year old asking for a cookie.

Be persistent. Be passionate. Powerful prayer is fervent, persistent, and faith-filled.

When you pray:

-He changes your heart.

-He gives you direction for living.

Pastor Bobby shared this quote today in closing: “Don’t be embarrassed by how needy your heart is and how much it needs to cry out for grace, just start praying.”

Just pray. Doesn't have to be eloquent. Or poetic. Just speak to Him. Powerful, fervent, and faith-filled. Grow your relationship with Him. It will change your life.
